Georgetown Real Estate
Georgetown has long been known for its warm hospitality and Southern charm.Georgetown was officially founded in 1729, although some historians believe it was settled much earlier than that. Recently named and All American City, this pre-revolutionary town boasts more than 50 historic homes and buidings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, cobblestone streets, a vibrant waterfront with a collection of charming shops, art filled galleries, and great restaurants lining it’s Harborwalk. Surrounded on three sides by water: the Black, Pee Dee and Waccamaw Rivers on the east, the Sampit River on the west, and Winyah Bay on the south, Georgetown is a popular stopover for boaters traveling the Intracoastal Waterway. At one time, Georgetown produced nearly half all the rice in the United States and became the largest rice exporting port in the world. Travel around Georgetown County, and you can still find nearly 50 antebellum plantations.
Georgetown Oceanfront Homes
Georgetown offers and array of beatiful oceanfront and bayfront homes. Debordieu Colony is one of the premier oceanfront communties on the Atlantic Coast. Many other areas such as Belle Isle, Winyah Bay Estates and others offer quiet and secluded home along Winyah Bay.
Georgetown Golf Course Homes
Like much of the South Carolina coast, Georgetown has its fair share of golf course communities. Wedgefield Plantation is a beautiful golf course community situated on the site of an old plantation.
Georgetown Historic Homes
In 1729, Elisha Screven laid out the town plan for Georgetown and developed the city in a four-by-eight block grid. This original area is referred to as the “Historic District.” It bears the original street names, lot numbers, and nearly 50 homes and buildings remain on the National Register of Historic Places, many of them beautifully restored. From this district, you can walk to the shops, restaurants, galleries and marinas along the waterfront.
